Is it possible to add a second field to validate the email address when learners sign up for a new account in the same way that the password field is validated?

What is the problem you are trying to solve?
Now that the learner email address is being used as the username we get a lot less queries about password resets. But we're still getting some queries of "I can't sign in and I haven't received a password reset email" and the cause is always the learner mistyping their email address when they sign up for an account. The only workaround we have for that situation at the moment is to create a new account with the correct email address and then merge the account with the incorrect address into the account with the correct email address.
